Marc Räder

Marc Räder photography drafts a unique territory of visual documentation proposing subjective portraiture on the implications of life in it´s various perspectives. His first major photographic project Scanscape (1994-96) initiated a distinctive choice of techniques texturizing the focus of the image challenging the viewer’s perception of scale and authenticity, drawing a dynamic interaction between the photographer, the spectator and the image in which the meaning is actively constructed. Räder experiments with the extraction of uncanny perceptions of reality while his subject-matter draws from the open space, the interconnections between geography, architecture and human activity adding a nowadays dimension that can be understood as a visual critique of all of the above, resonating in his photographic techniques and above all sociopolitical commentary.

Marc Räder was born in Bochum, Germany in 1966 and currently lives and works in Berlin. He studied Communication Design at Folkwang University, Essen and Fine Arts at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, US. Since the early 90´s he has been exhibiting and publishing his projects around the world. His work has been shown in selected galleries and included in the permanent collection of the MOMA, NY.
